Statement of principles

In 2006, Mission Australia developed a Statement of Principles to guide and inform our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. These principles recognise and value the great diversity of spirituality, languages, culture and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The spirit journey

To complement the Mission Australia 'Statement of Principles' we comissioned an Indigenous artist, Jade Rose, to create a pictorial representation that guides our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Support for Indigenous Australians

Mission Australia believes Indigenous Australians should enjoy a high quality of life with every opportunity to succeed.

We recognise that Indigenous Australians are among the most disadvantaged groups in our society. Mission Australia is dedicated to providing assistance to increase their opportunities and quality of life. Working closely with local communities – in metro, regional and remote areas, we work to address training, employment, education, child and families’ needs.

We work with Indigenous Australians in over 50 communities – from the Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory to Sale and Bairnsdale in southern Victoria – helping to deliver long-term outcomes.
