Accenture volunteers - December 2008

AccentureAccenture Volunteers came out in force to help the Olympic and Haig Street Primary Schools celebrate their end of term soccer and learning club activities in early December 2008.

The volunteers were integral to the soccer program celebration, providing a delicious BBQ for over 80 students and their parents.  Their assistance and support in organising the day and providing IT support enabled the presentation afternoon to run smoothly.

Mission Australia Family Day at Melbourne Zoo

Melbourne ZooOn Tuesday 23 December 2008, Mission Australia and Zoos Victoria, proudly sponsored by Metlink and VLine, teamed up to provide a unique, entertaining and educative experience for over 2,100 migrants, refugees and disadvantaged Victorian families who had never had the opportunity to visit a Zoo before.

Mission Australia Centre, Surry Hills – Christmas Day

Darryl and Lourdes had always wanted to volunteer at Christmas time but had always left it to too late and missed out. However last year, they were so excited when they were able to participate in the Mission Australia Christmas Day. They did not know what to expect but were overwhelmed by the great facilities that Mission Australia provide and the friendly people we have working here. The guys that they spent the day with were great - they could have spent more time with them! Steve and Sandy helped them out in the kitchen, whilst Ibrahim baby sat their one and a half year old daughter, Jordan.

Onkaparinga Youth Services, South Australia – Christmas Party

Onkaparinga Youth Services celebrated the end of another great year by inviting all of their clients, stakeholders and volunteers to their 2008 Christmas Party. It was a great chance for volunteers to simply come along and have fun whilst staff looked after all the facilitation and supervision.

Many volunteers brought along their families, and together they enjoyed great food and entertainment including a jumping castle, DJs, a magician and of course Santa.

Onkaparinga Youth Services were glad they could host a successful event to reward and acknowledge their dedicated team of volunteers.

Christmas Lunch in the Park - Perth

It’s wonderful to see how over 400 volunteers can come together on Christmas Day to work as a team and run Christmas Lunch in the Park. Everyone did a great job, whether they were responsible for welcoming guests, serving food and drinks, hosting tables, filling gift sacks or managing children’s activities.

Mission Australia would also like to thank the unsung heroes of the piece: our volunteers who gave up their time on Christmas eve to help set up the event and others who arrived very early on Christmas Day to continue setting up an inflate 1000 balloons!

Lastly, thanks to the volunteers who stayed past 5.00pm until every single item had been packed away – including the lady who spent the remainder of Christmas Day (until 1am) distributing left-over meals to others in need. Her outstanding dedication exemplifies the generous nature of all our dedicated volunteers.

Without these amazing volunteers Christmas Lunch in the Park would not be possible.

Fundraising Team - National Office

December is a particularly busy time for the Fundraising team. We were very fortunate to have a fantastic team of volunteers, who helped us to handwrite over 500 donor Christmas cards.

They opened mail, sorted surveys, stuffed envelopes; not all glamorous work but they happily helped out where they could. On behalf of the Fundraising Team, a big THANK YOU!
